We use our feet everyday, whether it is walking to the shops, running on the sports field, or all day at work. If we don't give them the proper support they need we may face pain and discomfort, which could prevent us doing the things we want and need to do.

Good footwear is an integral part of looking after your feet, and problems are often caused by a lack of support in the shoes. Constrictive footwear can lead to the toes being squashed together, causing further problems down the track. Your podiatrist can give you footwear recommendations specific to your needs/activity level and provide modifications to your shoes that improve comfort or give additional support/biomechanical correction.

Foot Orthoses
Orthoses are inserts worn in shoes that aim to support the foot and correct abnormal foot posture through the realignment of structures in the foot. They can also be prescribed to redistribute pressure evenly across the foot to reduce formation of callus and corns or to offload painful lesions.

Some of the conditions that can be successfully treated with orthoses include:

    • General aches of the feet/ankles
    • Shin pain
    • Arch pain
    • Corns and calluses
    • Foot ulceration
    • Tendonitis
    • Recurrent ankle sprains
    • Recurrent stress fractures
    • Heel pain

Not all people will need orthoses, and orthoses often do not work on their own.

Treatment using orthotic therapy will generally be complemented with physical therapies that include taping, strapping, massage, stretching, strengthening or ultrasound.

Orthoses are casted by the podiatrist and customised to each patient. For information on pricing, contact us
